Donetsk State University of Management

Donetsk State University of Management is a Ukrainian University which started in 1992 as the Donetsk State Academy of Management (with 31 graduates) and was awarded the status of University in 2004 by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science.

Donetsk State University of Management - University of Donetsk.(DSU) is a specialized institution to prepare a comprehensive management development, economists, financiers, sociologists, experts in the field of law, management, marketing-oriented activities in a market economy in Ukraine its entry into the international scientific and educational space.

The university enrolls more than 7,000 students and trainees , 190 graduate and doctoral students in various specialties . April 20, 2007 decision of the Tenth Congress of Eurasian Association universities Donetsk State University of Management approved a full member of the association.

History

1992-1996

• Donetsk Academy of Management was established in June 1992 on the basis of Institute of Qualification Improvement of the Executives and Experts of Ministry of Coal Industry of Ukraine.
• The Academy was granted the status of public higher education establishment. The Charter of the Academy, its structure and Academic Council were developed and approved. Science-and-research department was organized.
• Faculties of Production Management, Non-Production Management, Distant Learning, Post-diploma Education, and Faculty for Foreign Students were founded. Students’ Scientific Society was organized. 
• The Academy newspaper “On Academic Knowledge” began to be published. 
• The Academy was fully certified and accredited according to the III level of national accreditation of higher education institutions. 
• 1996 – the Academy granted its first graduates. 
• Colleges of the Academy in the towns of Ugledar and Yasynovataya were opened. 
• Students of the Academy became the members of the Eurasian Students Association.

1997-2001

• Post-diploma and Master Studies were opened. The College in Torez was established. The Association of the Graduates was set up.
• The first agreements on cooperation with some educational institutions of Germany, Great Britain, the USA and France were signed.
• The first issue of scientific journal “Manager” was published. 
• The Anthem of the Academy and the standards of the Faculties were approved. 
• By the decision of State Certification Board, DSAM was certified and accredited with the IV level of accreditation. The Specialized Academic Council on PhD Theses Defense in Public Administration was organized.
• American Biographic Institute awarded Professor Stanislav Povazhny, the Rector of DSAM the title “The Man of the Year 2000”. 
• 2001 - the Rector of DSAM was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of Donetsk”.
• According to the Rating of Higher Educational Establishments of Ukraine DSAM was among the five best higher education institutions specialized in management education in 2001.

2002-2006

• 2002 – Donetsk State Academy of Management celebrated its 10th Anniversary and the Museum of DSAM History was founded.
• The Specialized Council on Doctor’s Theses Defense was organized. 
• The Rector of DSAM, Professor Stanislav Povazhny was titled the Corresponding Member of Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.
• 2004 - by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Donetsk State Academy of Management was accreditated with the title of the University.
• DSUM became the winner of the Rating of Higher Educational Establishments of Ukraine according to the results of the academic year and was awarded by Diploma of Sofia Kievskaya.
• Professor Alexander Povazhny, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Doctor of Sciences in Economics, Head of Department of Finance became the Laureate of President of Ukraine Award for Young Scientists.

2007-2011

• DSUM joined Eurasian Association of Universities. 
• DSUM was awarded the Diploma of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the high quality of training.
• 2007 - Professor Alexander Povazhny was elected he Rector at the meeting of the University’s staff.
• The Specialized Academic Council on PhD Theses Defense of Candidate in Sociology was organized. 
• DSUM signed Memorandum of Understanding with United Nations Development Program in Ukraine.
• 2010 - English Track MA European management of international economic activities was launched.

University Today

Donetsk State University of Management is a State-run higher education establishment founded in 1992 and accredited by the IV the highest level of national accreditation. 

DSUM mission is to train new competitive generation of specialists in the field of management with distinct creative thinking to serve the needs of professional world by means of the quality continuing education in accordance with international standards for intensive sustainable society development in the knowledge-based economy.

DSUM is a dynamic, modern, forward-looking higher education institution, which successfully combines the educational and research activities, invests into harmonious the spiritual and physical development of students and supports many international contacts. We seek to prepare our students for life in an increasingly complex, rapidly changing world.

Training is carried out on the following educational-and-qualification levels: Bachelor, Specialist/Master, MBA. Also DSUM offers PhD programs and post-diploma re-training programs to working professionals. 

Full-time Master program taught in English was launched in 2010 and covers the field of management of international economic affairs. 

There are programs for full-time and part-time students who can pursue their degree in the fields of economics, management, marketing, finance, sociology, law or social management. DSUM uses a unified credit transfer scheme compatible with European universities. Part-time form of study includes undergraduate and graduate education offered through both resident instruction and online delivery. It allows to gain excellent academic qualifications and experience to busy people who wish to increase their knowledge and skills through combination of study process and career development.

Each year about 8000 students study at DSUM attending the lectures and seminars conducted by more than 500 highly qualified teaching staff including doctors and candidates (PhD) of sciences and among them academicians of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academicians of branch academies of sciences of Ukraine. 

Campus facilities include 7 study buildings and 6 comfortable hostels where housing is guaranteed for all five years. For students’ service there are numerous computer classes with free Wi-Fi Internet connection. Students have free medical care and treatment for minor injuries at Medical Service. 

The University’s library is an essential support to study, teaching, and research activities. Almost 230 000 copies of books and periodicals represent important information service. The library has a collection of textbooks and reference publications on electronic data carriers and an e-catalogue based on the automated library system Unilib. The library divisions are opened in dormitories as well. 

  Aside from the academic experience a student will receive at the University, he/she may also participate in the other spheres of student life that make educational experience unique. Athletic clubs, field trips, students self-governance, dancing clubs are some of the activities available to them. Various services provide students with information on extracurricular activities during their time at the University. 

There is a wide range of opportunities to spend summer or winter vacations in Ukraine and abroad. Different trips are organized by the Students Council.

Donetsk State University of Management with its 23 sport clubs for students is recognized as one of the most sports-oriented universities among non-sport institutions of higher education.

 Accommodation

Distribution of seats in the hostels of different departments , is done by university dean .

A student who needs a place in a hostel, filling his own declaration , order and contract of liability and gives a statement to the Dean ( Deputy Dean ) for approval of the pro-rector DSUM . Signed order recorded in the logbook and issue orders to settle in a hostel , a signature stamp approved by the dean of the faculty and the student warrant issued for settlement.

In this universe to the hostel head ( governor ) introduces a hostel resident of the " Regulations on the hostel ", " internal regulations ", " fire safety ", "Terms of use of gas cooker with oven " and gives a pass to the hostel.

Kharkiv National University of Economics

Semen Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is the largest economic higher educational institution of the Eastern Ukraine. It's a state-owned higher school of the IV-level accreditation and belongs to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. From 2013 the University is named after Simon Kuznets, its' noted alumnus.

In the 2006/2007 academic year, the population included 12,860 students, 690 professors and teachers.

KNUE provides a full range of educational services implementing multistage training, retraining and upgrading of specialists in 22 specialties in the following fields: economy and business, management, government, computer sciences, publishing business and printing industry, tourism, on three qualifying levels:training bachelor, specialist (bachelor)and masters.

History

The Kharkiv National University of Economics is connected by direct historical continuity with the Kharkiv commercial school of Emperor Alexander III (1893-1919), Kharkov higher commercial courses of the Kharkov merchant society (1912-1916), Kharkov Commercial Institute (1916-1919) and the Kharkov Institute of a National Economy (1919-1930).

Official date of creation is October 1, 1930 when it was formed on the basis of industrial faculty of the Kharkov Institute of a National Economy as the Kharkov Engineering and Economic Institute. It prepared experts specialized in engineering and economic analysis for the key branches of the heavy industry of Ukraine and the USSR on machine-building, metallurgical, chemical and a forge faculties. In 1964 the faculty of the mechanized processing of the economic information was founded; the economics faculty was formed in 1970.

The institute rendered wide advisory help to the industrial enterprises on reconstruction, technological updating, increase of labour productivity and economic efficiency of manufacture, cost-effectiveness analysis and, since 1960, on the organization of automated control systems (management information systems). During this period the institute had created the advanced system of retraining and improvement of professional skill of the supervising personnel of the industry.

At the institute a number of research laboratories operated, including research laboratory of economy and organizations of machine-building industry of the Kharkov economic region under the scientific management of Prof. E.G. Liberman. Its research was assumed as a basis of economic reform in 1965 in the USSR.

Post-Graduation education

University provides professional development of foreign citizens of all previously mentioned specialities in the form of probation and retraining. Candidate (Ph.D) and Doctor of Science courses are available at the University. Post-graduate course duration is 3 years followed by thesis defence and degrees of Ph.D. in Economics are awarded.
